Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most scenic and wildlife-rich safari destinations. Located in Northern Tanzania, just a few hours’ drive from Arusha, Tarangire is famous for its massive elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and diverse ecosystems.
Covering approximately 2,850 square kilometers, the park offers a quieter and more exclusive safari experience compared to other parks in the Northern Circuit. During the dry season, Tarangire becomes one of the most important wildlife refuges in Tanzania.
Tarangire is often called the “Land of Giants” due to its extraordinary elephant population. Herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen gathering along the Tarangire River during the dry months.

This is the best time to visit Tarangire. Wildlife gathers around the Tarangire River, making game viewing exceptional and easier.
November – May (Green Season)
The park becomes lush and beautiful, with excellent birdwatching opportunities and fewer crowds.
Tarangire is especially recommended as the first stop on a Northern Circuit safari itinerary.
